About this world cup
The fourth generation of K-pop girl groups arrived fast and loud. Between 2018 and 2024, aespa, IVE, NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, ITZY, (G)I-DLE, NMIXX, STAYC, BABYMONSTER and ILLIT rewrote what a girl group could sound like, from hyperpop and drum-and-bass to easy-listening R&B. This 64-song bracket puts their signature anthems head to head.
The cup leans toward title tracks and the B-sides that became bigger than their singles: Next Level and Savage for aespa, LOVE DIVE and After LIKE for IVE, Ditto and Hype Boy for NewJeans, ANTIFRAGILE and UNFORGIVEN for LE SSERAFIM, TOMBOY and Queencard for (G)I-DLE. It also makes room for the groups that owned one huge moment, like FIFTY FIFTY's Cupid, Kep1er's WA DA DA and KISS OF LIFE's Sticky.
Because so many of these songs came out within months of each other, a lot of matchups here are direct rematches of real chart battles. Play a Round of 32 to get through the heavy hitters, or the full 64 if you want every group to get its shot.
Matchups to watch
Next Level vs LOVE DIVE
Two of the songs that defined the 2021-2022 comeback wars. aespa's genre-switching monster against IVE's single-take elegance.
Ditto vs ANTIFRAGILE
NewJeans at their most wistful against LE SSERAFIM at their most defiant. Same year, opposite moods.
WANNABE vs TOMBOY
ITZY's self-love anthem against (G)I-DLE's rock-tinged statement. Both became the theme song for a lot of people's confidence.
